He says often it’s the same story, a truck comes into the village, and even though the guy might be sketchy, the family is starving, so they get into the truck, for thousands of miles, and put up with horrible, dangerous conditions for a while, but when they go to leave, the “hammer comes down” and they find they are enslaved.
